The Calcutta High court on Thursday adjourned the Nandigram plea to November 15, in which West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had filed a petition challenging BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's election win from Nandigram constituency in 2021 Assembly elections.

Adhikari had cited pendency of the transfer petition filed by him in relation to the same in the Supreme Court.

In June, Banerjee had moved the Calcutta High Court challenging the May state Assembly results of the Nandigram assembly constituency where Adhikari defeated her by a slim margin of 1956 votes.

The court had ordered the Election Commission to preserve all records and devices related to the Nandigram polls.

Justice Kausik Chanda on July 7 had recused from hearing the TMC supremo’s petition challenging the election win of Adhikari from Nandigram and imposed a cost of Rs 5 lakh on her for the manner in which the recusal was sought.

Justice Shampa Sarkar had also served a notice to Suvendu Adhikari, who had left TMC to join BJP before elections.

Advocate Jaydip Kar appearing for Adhikari, said that he has moved a plea before the Supreme Court seeking transfer of Banerjee's election petition out of West Bengal, Bar and Bench reported.

He, therefore, prayed that the election petition be adjourned till the transfer petition is decided.

Single-judge Justice Shampa Sarkar agreed and posted the case for further hearing on November 15, 2021.

Mamata Banerjee had vacated her Bhawanipore seat to fight polls from Nandigram in a bid to challenge BJP's Adhikari. Banerjee's TMC won the closely fought Assembly elections and secured more than 200 seats, while BJP bagged 76 seats, coming a close second.
