Mysuru gangrape case: Sixth accused nabbed in Tamil Nadu

Mysuru: With further probe, the Mysuru Police made yet another arrest in connection with the gang-rape of a 22-year-old student.

Without divulging the accused man’s name, police sources told PTI that the man (34), who had been at large, was also arrested from Tirupur based on a tip-off on Monday night.

The cops had arrested five persons in connection to the case on Saturday and most of the arrest in the case was based on technical evidence.

The victim, still in shock, has not recorded her statement and was taken to Mumbai by her parents. According to police, the probe was started based on the information provided by the victim's male friend, who told police the culprits were speaking in Tamil.

The arrested accused have revealed the involvement of yet another accused, the seventh in the case, during interrogation, police have said.

Presently, he is at large, and teams have been formed for his arrest too.

The gang reportedly executed more than 20 crimes including robbery, burglary, loot and smuggling sandalwood, without sharing much details. They were primarily labourers, who were into wiring, carpentry, driving and construction workers, police said.

On Tuesday evening when the victim, a 22-year-old MBA student and her male friend had come to the spot at dusky hours, taking advantage of them being alone, the accused persons surrounded them.

The male friend was asked to pay Rs 3 lakh and one of the accused allegedly called up and spoke to the parents to arrange the money. DG Praveen Sood said it was an attempt of robbery and as the money could not be arranged, the woman was taken into their custody and assaulted.
