A day after issuing a controversial order imposing curbs on the movement of girl students on Manasagangotri campus after dusk and Karnataka Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan directive, the University of Mysore on Saturday withdrew the directive.

Karnataka minister Narayan on Saturday had directed the University of Mysore (UoM) to withdraw its controversial circular stating girls cannot more the campus after 6:30 pm.

As per news agency PTI, Narayan directed vice-chancellors of universities to take security measures and create safe campuses. He said it's true that generally, campuses of universities are vast but to bar the movement of girl students is not correct.

“In the wake of the tragic incident in Mysore, I informed VCs to withdraw the order as soon as circular issued by the University of Mysore forbidding student movement at university campus after 6.30 pm. Accordingly, it was withdrawn,” Narayan told reporters according to PTI report.

In a note issued here on Saturday, Registrar Shivappa said Friday’s order issued by him stood withdrawn. The university has instead issued an advisory to all the students to be watchful on the campus after dusk as a safety precaution. Also, the order said public entry to Kukkarahalli lake premises would be restricted after 6.30 pm as a precautionary measure.

A couple was visiting the Chamundi Hills in the outskirts of the city. They were followed by the accused who then surrounded them and demanded money from them. They beat up the boyfriend and gangraped the girl when the couple refused to give in to their demands.
