In a major political development, Mukul Roy on Friday made a 'Ghar Wapsi' to Trinamool Congress.

Mukul Roy, who had joined the BJP in 2017, was one of the early defectors who jumped the ship.

Sources claimed that Roy had been feeling neglected in the BJP during and after the Bengal Assembly elections.

The discord is believed to have been fueled when BJP made another former TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari the Leader of Opposition in the state. Since then, there have been rumours that he is considering a return to the TMC.

In fact, on the day of his oath-taking as MLA, Mukul Roy avoided BJP's legislature party meeting at the Bidhan Sabha building. Instead, he exchanged courtesies with his old colleague TMC's Subrata Bakshi.

Mukul Roy had then cleared the air with a tweet post and assured them that he is still a BJP worker.

However, his son Shuvrangshu Roy, another TMC-renegade BJP leader, sang out of tune. In a Facebook post, the ex-Bijpur MLA had condemned the state BJP leadership, saying, "Self-criticism is more necessary than criticising a government elected by people."

To recall, Mukul Roy was praised by Mamata Banerjee towards the end of the Nandigram election campaign. At a rally in Nandigram on March 30, Mamata had said that Mukul was not as bad as Suvendu.
