Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin on Friday took oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

Stalin and his 33-member cabinet were administered the oath by Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

Stalin will hold the portfolios of Police and Home among others.

Many former ministers are part of the Stalin-led cabinet with some of them being given different portfolios this time around.

DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan has been given the Water Resources, Mines and Minerals portfolios.

Former Chennai Mayor Ma Subramanian and north Chennai strongman PK Sekarbabu, who are among the first-time Ministers, have been allocated portfolios of Health and Family Welfare and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments respectively.

Former investment banker Palanivel Thiagarajan has been allocated Finance while K Ponmudi got back the higher education department he had held during 2006-11.

This is the sixth time Tamil Nadu has a chief minister from the DMK. In 1967, party founder C N Annadurai was first elected to the CM's post. Stalin's father M Karunanidhi held the post thereafter.
