Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed India's 'Yuva Shakti' while addressing the 80th edition of the monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' at 11 am.

Live on the entire network of AIR and Doordarshan and also on AIR News website www.newsonair.gov.in and newsonair Mobile App and also streamed live on AIR, DD News, PMO and Information and Broadcasting Ministry YouTube channels, the PM began his address with a tribute to Indian field hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.

"All of us know that today is the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand ji. And our country celebrates it as National Sports Day, in commemoration. This year we won an Olympic medal in hockey after 40 years. You can imagine how happy Major Dhyan Chand must be today. We are seeing love for sports in the youth today. This passion for sports is the greatest tribute to Major Dhyan Chand," PM Modi said.

Here are the highlights of PM Modi's Mann Ki Baat speech:

Modi said every medal is special and India’s youth wants to do something new and at a large scale. "We must not let this momentum stop. Our sports grounds in villages, towns, cities must be full. Only through the participation of all, India can attain the height in sports it deserves," he added.

PM Modi said, "India's youth is giving emphasis to quality. Today's youth do not want to walk on the pre-decided road. They want to step into the unknown world. Their destination is new, their goal is new, their path is new and their desire is new. Once our youth gets determined, they work hard to achieve that goal. They start working day and night on it."

"When it comes to sports, it is natural that the entire young generation is seen in front of us in our minds and when we look closely at the young generation, we see that a big change is visible. The mind of the youth is evolving and today's young mind wants to do something new from the worn-out old ways, and wants to do it differently," said PM Modi.

PM Modi noted that at a larger level, there is renewed momentum towards sports across the nation. "India is cheering for our #Paralympics contingent. Our fields must be full of players," he said.

Modi also appreciated India's space sector and said that India's space sector reforms have captured the imagination of the youth, informed by a tweet by PMO India. "Not long ago, India opened its space sector and on seeing that, the youth of our generation grabbed the opportunity and benefited from it. The students of colleges, universities, and young people working in the private sector stepped forward as well. And I am sure that in the coming days, a large number of such satellites will be used by our youth. Our students, our colleges, our universities, students are working in labs in this regard," PM Modi said.
