Maharashtra: Pune schools, colleges to be shut till April 1; 50% hospital beds to be taken over by govt

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today said that there will be no lockdown in Pune as of now but a decision will be taken on April 2 if the situation does not improve.

He appealed to people to follow Covid-19 preventive guidelines like wearing a mask and following social distance norms.

The health department officials had proposed 14 days lockdown in Pune but Pawar rejected the proposal. “Strict lockdown measures will be taken if the situation does not improve by April 1”, Pawar told media persons in a virtual press conference.

Highlights from Ajit Pawar's Covid-19 review meet in Pune:

·         Schools and colleges will stay shut till April 30.  

·         50% hospital beds to be taken over by the government.

·         Vaccination centres to be doubled.

·         Vaccine supply might be short. Centre has been requested to send more vaccine stock.

·         All political programs will be disallowed from April 1.

·         Not more than 20 people allowed in funerals/last rites.  

·         Not more than 50 people allowed during weddings.

·         Night curfew to be abided by strictly.

·         All other public programmes banned.

·         Public parks to be open in morning and evening.

·         Malls to remain open at 50 per cent capacity.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray will chair a meeting of all district collectors today to review the Covid-19 situation in the state.

The Covid-19 upsurge continued to breach all previous ‘records’ as Maharashtra added its highest ever single-day tallies on Thursday with 35,952 cases. The number of daily Covid-19 tests soared to a new peak of 25,031 in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) on Thursday.
