Maharashtra: Gas leak in Badlapur creates panic, complaints of breathing problems ; situation under control
The fire brigade official said gas leakage caused due to overheating by a chemical reaction between sulfuric acid and benzyl acid in the company.
FollowA gas leak in a chemical factory in Maharashtra's Badlapur reported late last night created panic among the locals. Several people, over a three-kilometre area, complained of breathlessness and a burning sensation in the eyes after the leak at Nobel Intermediates Pvt Ltd company at Shirgaon MIDC.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 10:22 pm at a factory called Nobel Intermediates Pvt, at Shirgaon MIDC, in Aptewadi area. According to sources, the cause of the leakage is believed to be overheating.
The fire brigade official said gas leakage caused due to overheating by a chemical reaction between sulfuric acid and benzyl acid in the company.
The fire brigade official said after getting the information they rushed to spot and controled leakage by 11.24 pm and brought the situation under control.
According to a report on The Indian Express, a resident was quoted saying, “People in the area reported experiencing trouble in breathing. “There is a major gas emission issue being experienced by residents in Badlapur East Shirgaon Katrap area. It’s all foggy and unbreathable at the moment here.”
Badlapur civic officials inspected the factory and said the gas is not toxic.
“We appeal to citizens not to panic and remain at home for a few hours,” a Thane RDMC official said.
As a measure of precaution, a few people were admitted to nearby hospitals and released after they were given medical assistance.
