Mumbai: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) late on Saturday arrested two people in Mansukh Hiran's death case.

The arrested accused have been identified as Naresh Dhare (31), a bookie and Vinayak Shinde (55), a police constable.

Shinde was convicted in the alleged fake encounter of Chhota Rajan's aide Ram Lakhan Bhaiiyaa in 2007.

He has worked with Waze in the team of encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma. The duo will be produced before a local court for seeking their remand.

Hiren was found dead in a creek near Thane just a week after a Scorpio with explosives inside was found parked near Mukesh Ambani’s high-rise residence, Antilia.

The explosive case is being investigated by the NIA while the Hiren death case is being probed the Mumbai ATS. However, the Union Home Ministry has ordered the NIA to takeover the Hiren death case from the Maharashtra ATS.

The NIA has arrested suspended assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze, who was in touch with Mansukh Hiren for some time. Hiren’s wife claims that Vaze was using the vehicle that was found near Antilia. She also suspects the role of Vaze in “killing” of Mansukh Hiren. The NIA has arrested Sachin Vaze and confronting him with evidence gathered so far.

On February 25, industrialist Mukesh Ambani's security alerts the Gamdevi police about an abandoned Scorpio parked outside his house at Carmichael Road.
