Day 1 of the Monsoon session of the parliament kicked-off on a stormy note as Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced new Cabinet ministers in the Lok Sabha today. A series of meetings were held on Sunday ahead of the session, indicating the seriousness with which, both the government and Opposition parties will approach the session.
PM Modi introduced new Cabinet ministers in Lok Sabha and said I thought that there would be enthusiasm in the Parliament as so many women, Dalits, tribals have become Ministers. This time our colleagues from agricultural and rural background, OBC community, have been given berth in Council of Ministers.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an all-party meeting in which he told the leaders that the government is ready for a “healthy and meaningful discussion” on various issues in Parliament. An official statement said that the Prime Minister told the floor leaders that according to the country’s traditions of a healthy democracy, issues concerning the people should be raised amicably and the government should be allowed to respond to these discussions.
The Opposition has said future outbreaks of Covid-19 will be discussed, along with gaps in government strategy that led to the second wave. Loss of livelihood, businesses closing down, and the steps the government has taken to prevent this in the form of various measures, will also be flagged.
Meanwhile, Members of Parliament in Rajya Sabha paid tribute to MPs and personalities who died this year, including veteran actor Dilip Kumar and veteran athlete Milkha Singh. Rajya Sabha adjourned for an hour till 12:45 pm.
