Uttar Pradesh Police has placed Congress politician and Lucknow general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra under house arrest on Monday morning. The leader was on her way to meet with the relatives of four farmers who passed away after the convoy of Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Ajay Misra's son Ashish Misra allegedly ran over protesting farmers. She was sent to a guest home in the Sitapur district. The UP Congress issued a tweet encouraging people to travel to the region to show their support. According to the UP Congress's Twitter account, there was a significant police presence at toll plazas from Lucknow to Lakhimpur Kheri.

Reacting to the UP Police's order to place her under house arrest, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "I am not committing a crime by stepping out of the house. I just want to meet the affected families and share their grief. What wrong am I committing? And if I have done something wrong, then you [UP Police] should have an order, a warrant. You [UP Police] are stopping me, my car, but for what reason?"

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had arrived at the Lucknow airport on Sunday and was on her way to Kaul House, her Lucknow residence when she was detained by police and placed under house arrest. Soon after she was placed under house arrest, Congress workers gathered outside her Lucknow home and raised anti-house-arrest slogans.

Meanwhile, during the night between Sunday and Monday, Sanjay Singh, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, was stopped in Sitapur on his route to Lakhimpur Kheri. He was apprehended during a vehicle check in the district's Laharpur region.

However, when Lakhimpur Kheri developed into a fortress, provincial armed constabulary (PAC) was stationed outside the Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav house. This development occurred prior to his arrival to the accident scene. Similarly, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's aircraft was denied landing permission in Lucknow.

A Trinamool Congress team, including Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait, Chhatisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, will visit the district today.

Responding to claims that his son Ashish Mishra was driving the car that hit protesting farmers and murdered eight people in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday, minister of state Ajay Mishra Teni stated that his son was not even present at the time of the event. He criticised the entire affair, calling it a "plot" and adding that his truck, which his driver was driving, was showered with stones, causing it to topple and two farmers to fall below.

Sukhwinder Singh (20), Satnam Singh (20), Hari Singh (35) and Subba Singh (35) have been identified as the four deceased farmers by the district magistrate (65). All are from the districts of Bahraich and Kheri.
