Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra ‘Monu’ has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the October 3 Lakhimpur violence.

He was arrested last night after over 12 hours of questioning in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence which left eight people, including four farmers, dead.

After around 12 hours of questioning in connection with the violence in which eight persons including four farmers were killed, a medical team examined Ashish Mishra in the crime branch office, after which he was taken for production before a judicial magistrate, who sent him to custody, senior prosecution officer SP Yadav told PTI.

Talking about the arrest, DIG Agarwal said Ashish Mishra was held “on the ground of non-cooperation & evasive replies”.

The development came a day after the Supreme Court had expressed its dissatisfaction over the action taken against the accused in the Lakhimpur incident that had drawn massive outrage.

Ashish Mishra was named in an FIR following allegations that he was in one of the vehicles that mowed down four farmers protesting over UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit last Sunday.

The Opposition has been demanding immediate arrest of Ashish Mishra for his alleged role in knocking down farmers, who were run over by a vehicle linked to the minister.

On the other hand, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the umbrella body of farm unions had written to President Ram Nath Kovind, demanding that MoS, Home, Ajay Mishra be sacked, and a murder case filed against his son.

On Sunday, as many as eight people were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri following violence that broke out after a car mowed down protesting farmers.
