Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's public gathering at a village near Karnal had to be cancelled after farmers protesting against the Centre's farm laws ransacked the venue.

Trouble began when the state police cracked down upon farmers who were trying to enter the village where the chief minister was scheduled to visit.

The farmers were tear-gassed, targeted with water cannons and lathi-charged.

However, moments later, a mob stormed the village and went on to ransack the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' venue and the helipad where Chief Minister Khattar's helicopter was to land.

Videos of the venue being torn apart by an angry mob have been doing the rounds on social media.

There is speculation, especially among BJP leaders, that members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union and Congress were reportedly behind the arson

The 'Mahapanchayat' was cancelled thereafter.
