Thiruvananthapuram: Controversial businesswoman Saritha S Nair was arrested by Kozhikode Kasaba police from Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday in connection with the solar scam case.

The allegation against her was that she cheated Kozhikode-based Industrialist Abdul Majeed and secured Rs 42.7 lakh after promising him franchises in solar panel and windmill farm companies.

The Kasaba police on Thursday arrested Saritha S Nair, the prime accused in the solar scam, following a warrant recently issued by the Kozhikode Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court. She was taken into custody from her house in Thiruvananthapuram in the morning.

This court had earlier asked her to appear before them on February 25, but she failed to do so and the police later on Thursday will produce her before the court, as she is now being taken to Kozhikode.

According to reports, she will be produced before the court on Thursday itself.

Earlier, the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court cancelled the bail granted to Saritha and Biju Radhakrishnan, another accused in the solar scam case. Biju is the first accused in the case while Saritha is the second accused.

Incidentally, Saritha can take the credit for bringing down the 2011-16 Oommen Chandy government on account of the scams involving her and a few office members of the Chandy office, which the Left used widely in their election campaign in 2016.

At the fag end of the present Pinarayi Vijayan government she is creating heartbreaks to the present administration in an alleged fake appointment racket case, in which one person has already been arrested.

State Excise Minister TP Ramakrishnan on Wednesday flatly denied having any dealings with Solar accused Saritha Nair.

"Never ever have I had anything to do with such people. Strict action will be taken against any foul play if it has happened in the appointments made," said the minister.
