A shocking case of dowry death has emerged from Kerala wherein a 24-year-old Ayurveda student found dead inside her house in the Kollam district on Monday.

Vismaya V Nair was found hanging inside the washroom of her in-law residence.

Demanding a thorough probe, the girl's family has claimed that she was tortured by her husband, Kiran, who is a motor vehicles inspector in the motor vehicles department of the state government.

The family claimed that since her marriage last June, issues kept cropping up, following which the girl informed some of her relatives about the manner in which her husband would torture her. Vismaya also shared photos of wounds on her face and hands.

WhatsApp chats shared by her family members narrated the horror she went through. In fact, towards the last year of her course, she had returned home.

Vismaya's father, Trivikraman Nair, told media persons that he had given 1.20 acres of land, 100 sovereigns of gold and a new car at the time of marriage.

Nair claimed Vismaya's husband kept torturing his daughter for more money.

Earlier this year, she returned to her husband's home. WhatsApp screenshots allegedly pointed towards a recent provocation for torture over Kiran not liking the car which Vismaya's father recently gifted the couple.

Kerala women's commission has sought a report from the state police, which has registered a case for unnatural death.

Media reports said that the Kerala Police was working towards filing a case of Section 304 under the criminal procedure code against Kiran.
