Thiruvananthapuram: Amid surging Covid-19 cases, the Kerala government on Monday announced tighter restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state. The Pinarayi Vijayan government announced that cinema halls, malls, gyms, clubs, sports complexes, swimming pools, entertainment parks and bars are being ordered shut in the state starting Tuesday (April 27) until further orders.

"The state is witnessing an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases in all the districts as a part of second wave of pandemic, in spite of the best efforts of the government to contain the spread of the disease. Several measures have already been initiated to contain the spread of the pandemic. However, it has been assessed that further containment measures are necessary," the government release stated.

Moreover, shops and restaurants will be closed by 7:30 PM (take away and home delivery can continue till 9 PM). Besides this, all social, political, cultural and religious functions/gatherings have been prohibited until further orders, the government has informed.

The decision was taken after an all-party meeting during which political parties unanimously agreed to continue with strict restrictions, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said at a press meet here.

Covid-19 restrictions announced by Kerala government:
*In religious places, people can be allowed for worship with 2-meter social distancing restricted to a maximum of 50 persons.
*All meetings (government and private) should be held online.
*Cinema halls, malls, gymnasiums, clubs, sports complexes, swimming pools, entertainment parks and bars to remain shut until further orders.
*Shops and restaurants shall be closed by 7.30 pm. Take-away and home delivery will be allowed to continue till 9 pm. All shops/restaurants are required to minimise interaction with customers/in-house dining. Only bare minimum time will be allowed for the customers in shops. Takeaways and home deliveries as encouraged.
*Only election-related counting arrangements, essential and emergency services allowed on May 1 and May 2, 2021. “Officials on Election Duty, Candidates, Counting Agents and Media representatives only will be allowed (at the counting centres) on May 2, 2021. It is mandatory for the above category of people to produce either the final vaccination certificate after taking two doses of vaccination or a negative RT-PCR test report obtained within 72 hours of the start of counting.”
*All social, political, cultural and religious functions/gatherings have been banned until further orders.
*Only essential services and emergency services permitted on Saturdays and Sundays.
*Saturdays will remain a holiday for all government/quasi-government offices and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), until further orders.
*Maximum 50 persons at marriages and 20 persons at funerals allowed. Marriages to have a maximum duration of 2 hours. Marriage functions to be registered in the 'Event Registration' module of Covid-19 Jagratha Portal in advance.
*Shops and restaurants to shut by 7.30 pm (take away and home delivery allowed till 9 pm).
