In view of the rising cases of Covid-19, Kerala has imposed fresh restrictions to curb the spread of infection in the state.

As per the directive released today, not more than 100 people are allowed to gather in an indoor function. A maximum of 200 people are permitted in an outdoor gathering. The government also directed the shops to close by 9 pm and has put restrictions on malls and theatre occupancy.

The restrictions would apply to weddings and other functions. Instead of ‘sadyas’, Kerala’s traditional meal served on banana leaves, arrangements should be made to offer guests packed food.

State chief secretary VP Joy on Monday convened a meeting of the core committee on the current Covid-19 situation in the state and decided to introduce strict measures.

In restaurants, only 50% of the seats can be occupied at any given point. Measures to provide packed food, instead of dine-in facilities, to guests can be encouraged. Shopping festivals and discount melas at malls are prohibited.

Religious leaders and district authorities shall encourage people to avoid gatherings (Iftar parties) when fast is broken during evenings in the month of Ramzan.

Buses should not allow standing passengers and not ferry passengers beyond the seating capacity. The Motor Vehicle Department shall take steps to ensure the same.

The state on Monday reported 5,692 fresh Covid-19 cases, including one from the UK, and 11 related deaths, taking the total affected to 11.72 lakh and the toll to 4,794, health minister KK Shailaja said. And, amidst the sudden rise in the number of cases, the state is also witnessing vaccine shortage.
