Kerala announces complete lockdown on July 17, 18; know what is allowed and what is not

God's own country Kerala which continues to face health emergencies for the last few years has once again announced a complete lockdown. The lockdown will be for two days on July 17 and 18. The lockdown is to avoid people gathering during weekends and to arrest the virus.

As many as 14,539 cases on Tuesday rattled Kerala and once again the state government has decided to go for complete lockdown.
However, the lockdown will be in place for the weekend on July 17 and 18 to avoid people gathering in large numbers.

The Government also instructed all the District Collectors to strictly implement Covid restrictions like less gathering, avoid touching, wearing mask, allowing less than 50 members for weddings, following social distance and also coming up with micro-containment zones in areas which has more number of Covid infections along with fresh guidelines on shops and establishments.

As per reports the additional guidelines will come into effect on July 17, all banks and institutions dealing with finance will not function. Essentials shops will be allowed if the area has a below 15% positive rate. This area has been categorized as 'C' in the already issued guidelines.

Under 'B', with below 10% of positive rate in area, shops and the establishment will be allowed to open only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday till 8 pm.

Similarly in areas where the positive rate is below 5%, shops can be allowed to function till 8 pm under 'A' category.

Since 2020 January, Kerala has recorded  30.7 lakh Covid cases and reported 14,586 deaths. Interestingly, it was the first state in the country to have reported a Covid case when a medical student returned from Wuhan. Now, it is said that after 1.5 years, the person has once again been confirmed to be positive for Covid-19 and is under observation.
