Bengaluru: After assessing the coronavirus situation in the state, the Karnataka government announced to restart schools for classes 8 to 10 and PUC from August 23.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the decision was taken after meeting with the education and health experts, and also regarding the decisions taken by other states in this regard. He said, “The restarting of schools will be done in two stages. In the first stage, class 9,10, also 11th and 12th (I and II PUC) classes will start from August 23.”

There are certain conditions for opening schools, as per which classes are going to be held in batches on alternate days and details are going to be given within the order, he said.

The classes are going to be held every alternate day, Bommai announced.

Bommai further said experts are of the opinion that a decision should be taken by August-end in relation to starting primary and secondary classes up to class 8, after taking into account the possibility of a third Covid wave and the intensity of infections.

The government also announced that the night curfew which is in place from 10 pm to 5 am will come into effect an hour earlier from today.

This means the night curfew will be imposed from 9 pm to 5 am from Friday.
