A report in regional media accusing Excise Minister H Nagesh of demanding Rs 1 crore bribe for transfer has put the BJP-led Karnataka government in a tight spot. The minister was forced to give a clarification stating he would swear by god to prove his 'innocence'.

As per reports, Sneha, daughter of Mohan Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Excise, Hospete in Ballari dashed off a letter to PM Modi accusing Nagesh of demanding a bribe of Rs 1 Crore to transfer her father to Bengaluru.

It is said that the family had approached the minister for transfer based on health grounds as there was a vacancy to the Bengaluru division. The complainant has also accused that minister’s two associates LA Manjunath and Harsha, worked as brokers for the transfer of the bribe.

Mohan Kumar also filed a complaint at the e-spandana (e-grievance) cell, accusing that the minister demanded a bribe for his transfer.

As the matter became a topic for discussion in and around the secretariat, the minister accused the complainant of blackmailing him and is now forced to order a probe and also says he will cooperate.

Nagesh is an Independent MLA from Mulbagal constituency and pulled out his support from the JDS-Congress government and later expressed his solidarity with BS Yediyurappa.
