Karnataka HC dismisses police lathicharge case, orders penalty of Rs 1000
In a significant development in police harassment case during lockdown, the Karnataka High Court not only dismissed the petition but also pulled up activist Balakrishnan and also imposed a penalty on Rs 1,000 against him.
In a morale booster to the police department, the High Court bench that was hearing a petition filed by an activist Balakrishnan who wanted an FIR registered against the police for canning the public during lockdown, the court dismissed the petition and also imposed a fine of Rs 1000 against the petitioner.
Balakrishnan has petitioned to the court against the police department stating that the police resorted to inhuman acts by beating the public who came out during lockdown.
While hearing the petition, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and M Nagaprasanna bench questioned the petitioner and asked him does he know how many police personnel have died during Covid duty.
Besides, also asked the petitioner that, whether the public listens to a police's oral request?
The bench observed that required documents were not submitted and some police may have acted as they may have run out of patience and hence it is not possible to file a case against all.
The bench further in its observation said that inquiry into this case is not possible and hence dismissed besides ordering a penalty of Rs 1000 against the petitioner.
