Amid rising Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government on Wednesday imposed more restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in city limits from today.

The government has prohibited the operation of swimming pools, gymnasiums, party halls etc in apartments and residential complexes in Bengaluru city limits, according to the order.

“Prohibit operation of amenities like Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Party Halls etc in apartment/residential complexes in limits of Bengaluru City,” the order from the Karnataka government said.

Prior to this, the Karnataka government had banned public gathering in large numbers and other activities in Bengaluru to contain the virus spread.

“Rallies and demonstrations for any purpose by any group are prohibited across the city till April 20 to strictly comply with the Covid appropriate behaviour,” city police commissioner Kamal Pant had said in the order.

Karnataka Tuesday reported 6,150 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which is the highest single-day spike in the state this year. Bengaluru alone contributed 4,266 fresh cases. The state also reported 39 fatalities, taking the death toll to 12,696, while Bengaluru reported 26 deaths related to Covid-19.

The total number of infections has reached 10.26 lakh and the death toll to 12,696, according to the Karnataka health department. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, 3,487 patients got discharged after recovery.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Health and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar has appealed to the Union Government to provide more doses of vaccines to Karnataka in order to control the pandemic. He was speaking to the reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday after participating in the Union Health Minister’s Video Conference with the Health Ministers of 11 states/Union territories.
