Karnataka CM Yediyurappa silences critics with Rs 745.55 cr lockdown package for construction labourers

As the opposition was criticising the BS Yediyurappa government for just announcing lockdown packages to different sections and vanishing in thin air, the CM transferred a whopping Rs 745.55 crore into Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare BoardBoard account. Over 20 lakh labourers get Rs 3000 assistance each.

Out of the Rs 1,750 crore lockdown package announced by Karnataka CM, today he instructed a transfer of Rs 749.55 crore to the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. By this act, the CM has assured that 25 lakh labourers registered with the board and also those who come under unskilled workers each will get Rs 3,000 as assistance.

A portal will be created to ensure the amount is going to beneficiaries and to avoid any discrepancies.

The CM, referring to the media, said, "You kept asking when will people get money, hence, today we transferred Rs 749.55 crore to the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. This will benefit 25 lakh registered workers who will get Rs 3,000," the CM told reporters.

The CM further added that the already Rs 110 crore has been transferred to the account of 10 lakh  beneficiaries from 11 different working sections of the society. The workers in unorganised sector ranging from saloon shops working as
barbers, washermen, tailors, construction labourers, ragpickers, and others.

The CM decision and steps comes at a time when lockdown was further extended impacting working sections across in various sectors. As the new infection is still over 15,000 daily, unlocking the lockdown will depend on the improvement of the situation.
