Karnataka CM Yediyurappa announces Rs 1,250 crore package, says decision on lockdown extension on May 23
With most of the Deputy Commissioners and ministers favoring extension of lockdown and growing pressure for announcing a special financial aid for different sections, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa announced Rs 1,250 crore package. He also said decision on lockdown will be taken on May 23.
Bengaluru: After a meeting with Deputy CMs and senior Cabinet colleagues, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa announced a package of Rs 1,250 crore to financially aid weaker sections.
CM Yediyurappa summoned Deputy CMs Laxman Savadi, CN Ashwathnarayana and Govind Karjola and senior ministers before announcing this decision.
The special financial assistance to registered Auto and Taxi and Maxi cab drivers to receive Rs 3000 as a one-time settlement for which the state allocated Rs 65 crores. 2.1 lakh people are likely to get the benefit.
Similarly, for farmers involved in floriculture, Rs 10,000 will be given per hectare which amounts to Rs 12.73 crores to be given to about 20,000 farmers.
Horticulture farmers involved in fruits and vegetable cultivation, Rs 10,000 per hectare will be given for which Rs 78 crores has been allocated and 70,000 farmers will receive the benefit.
Labourers registered with the construction board to receive Rs 3000 and will cost Rs 439 crore to state exchequer. Unrecognized laborers like cobblers, tailors, painters and others to get 2000 and Rs 61 crores will be spent for this. In all 3.5 lakh people will benefit from the scheme.
Street vendors, per person Rs 2000 will be given and 2.20 lacs people will benefit. The package will cost Rs 45 crores.
Similarly, the government also has considered artists and identified 16,100 persons who will get Rs 3000 and this will cost Rs 48 lakh.
Farmers in the small and medium sector who have taken loan will benefit as the government has waived it off. From May 1/5/2021 to 31/7/2021 the loan has waived and this exercise will cost Rs 135 crore to state exchequer and will benefit 4.25 lakh farmers.
Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Yojna 5 kilo rice will be distributed per person and 30 lakh beneficiaries will benefit from this at a cost of Rs 180 crore.
To fight Covid at village and panchayat level, State Disaster Response Force will monitor and will get Rs 50,000 in advance at each panchayat and 6,000 such panchayats will gain benefit.
CM also said that the decision on extension of lockdown will be taken on May 23 and now will only concentrate on distributing the announced package.
