Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa expects decision from BJP high command by evening

Bengaluru: Though an official confirmation is awaited, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday hinted at his possible exit by saying that he is expecting suggestions from the BJP high command about his political future by evening.

“I’m expecting suggestions from high command by evening, you’ll (media) also come to know what it will be”, he told reporters in Belagavi today. He was in the flood and rain ravaged district to review the relief and rescue operation there.

Interestingly, when asked about the possibility of a Dalit replacing him as Chief Minister, Yediyurappa replied, “High command will decide about it; I'm not concerned about it (on appointing Dalit CM).”

To a question on pontiffs holding a mega conclave in Bengaluru Sunday, which is seen as expressing solidarity with him, he said, “There is no need for pontiffs to hold any meet, I have confidence in PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national President JP Nadda.”

With Yediyurappa announcing that he would abide by the top leadership's instruction on July 25, speculation is rife that Karnataka Mines and Geology Minister Muruesh R Nirani is among those who would be the next chief minister.

Nirani, who visited Delhi about a fortnight ago and termed his visit 'successful', reiterated his support to CM Yediyurappa.

Indicating that Monday might be his last day in office, Yediyurappa had recently said that based on the instructions that the central leaders will give him on July 25, he will get on with “his work” from July 26.

His government will complete two years in office on July 26.
