Karnataka: 7 die after house collapses due to heavy rains in Belagavi, PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia
Following heavy rains, 7 people died after a house collapsed in Belagavi district in Karnataka on Wednesday. Expressressing sincere condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each under Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

The PM sent across a condolence message on his official Twitter handle. He said that he is saddened by the loss of lives due to the house collapse and also announced a sum of Rs 2 lakh as ex gratia to the kin of the victims.
Due to heavy rains, a house collapsed in Basavana Bagewadi taluk's Ankalagi village in the late evening on Wednesday. CM Basavaraj Bommai has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin and kith of the victims.
Due to heavy rains following 'Shaheen' Cyclone's impact from the last few days, the state witnessed heavy rains in some districts.
According to reports, due to the wall collapse, five died on the spot, while two others succumbed at a hospital. The deceased have been identified as Gangavva Khangavi, Sathyaavva Khangavi, Pooja, Savita, Kashavva, Lakshmi and Arjun.
Two days ago, heavy rains plundered Bengaluru and resulted in flooding of over 100 homes and uprooting of trees. Due to 64 mm rainfall two days ago, low-lying areas and some apartment complexes were flooded with stormwater and also sewage water from nearby drains.
The next day, BBMP deployed civic workers to clear the primary and secondary drains to avoid a similar situation as more rains are expected this October.Â
