With schools and colleges reopening across states amid declining trend of Covid-19 cases, Karnataka reported 32 students testing positive for Covid-19 in a college in Kolar.

Taking note of the incident, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar has said he will visit the college and initiate action against the college management.

"All of them are Kerala returnees. I'll visit the college & take action against the management," Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar told ANI.

He further stated that the government has worked hard to mitigate the pandemic and the Covid-19 has been brought under control to 700-800 cases per day from as high as 50,000 cases per day.

The Karnataka government had announced that all people entering the state from neighbouring Kerala will have to remain in institutional quarantine for a week even if they are vaccinated and carry a negative RT-PCR test report.

Karnataka sees an influx of a large number of people from Kerala traveling to border districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi every day for various reasons such as work, educational purposes, and to avail medical facilities here.

This development comes when several schools, colleges, and other educational institutions resumed physical classes with Covid safety protocols. With SOPs in place to ensure the safety of students which include staggered lunch breaks, minimum seating capacity (50%) in class, masking and sanitization protocols, etc, states including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and many more reopened today (September 1).

The health department on Tuesday said that Karnataka reported 1,217 new cases of Covid-19 and 25 deaths, taking the total number of infections to 29,49,445 and toll to 37,318.

The total number of active cases in the state stood at 18,386. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 0.94%, case fatality rate (CFR) was at 2.05%.
