JNU students who thrashed security staff, broke into library booked by Delhi Police
According to a statement released by the JNU registrar, a group of students who were demanding access to the library turned unruly and attacked the security staff posted outside the BR Ambedkar library on June 8.
FollowArson and violation of Covid protocols in Jawaharlal Nehru University came to light on Thursday after the Delhi Police filed a case against students who smashed the glass door of the university's central library and roughed up security guards.
According to a statement released by the JNU registrar, a group of students who were demanding access to the library turned unruly and attacked the security staff posted outside the BR Ambedkar library on June 8.
The registrar claimed that the students broke the side glass door of the library, entered the main reading room and have occupied the space since then.
The Delhi Police FIR states that the security personnel resisted the attack and did not allow the students to enter from the three entrance gates. The students then reportedly found a small gate, broke the glass pane, and entered the library.
The students were neither wearing masks nor following Covid guidelines, the official claimed, adding that the unruly students are posing a health risk as they refuse to let library staff sanitise the space.
The students have been booked under sections of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, Epidemic Diseased Act, DDMA Act and the Indian Penal Code.
