J&K: School principal, teacher shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar; 7 civilians killed in last 5 days
The killing of the teachers comes just two days after the owner of a popular pharmacy in Srinagar, Makhan Lal Bindroo, was shot by terrorists near his shop in Srinagar's Iqbal Park area.
Just two days after three civilians were shot dead in Srinagar and Bandipora, unidentified terrorists killed a school principal and a teacher in the Safa Kadal area of Srinagar on Thursday.
According to reports, the gunmen fired upon the duo, identified as principal Supinder Kour (44) and teacher Deepak Chand of Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Sangam. Both were residents of Alochibagh. Chand is a Kashmir Pandit, and the woman was a Sikh.
They were rushed to Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) hospital where they were declared brought dead on arrival.
The killing of the teachers, which drew widespread condemnation, took the number of civilians killed in the last five days in Kashmir valley to seven, including four from the minorities.
Meanwhile, security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
“About 11:15 am, terrorists shot dead two school teachers at Sangam Eidgah in Srinagar district,” a police official said.
Dilbagh Singh, JK DGP, reacting to the killings said, “These incidents targeting civilians are abhorrent…this is an attempt to spread terror and to divide the Kashmiri community. We are investigating these incidents. We are sure of unmasking these terrorists…it will be done soon. This is being done at the behest of Pakistani handlers from across the border.”
This incident comes just two days after the owner of a popular pharmacy in Srinagar, Makhan Lal Bindroo, was shot by terrorists near his shop in Srinagar's Iqbal Park area.
While 70-year-old Makhan Lal Bindroo, was shot at from point-blank range inside his pharmacy around 7 pm, terrorists struck at Lal Bazar in downtown Srinagar and killed a street food vendor who was identified as Virender Paswan.
Another civilian was shot dead by terrorists in Bandipora. The man was identified as Mohammad Shafi, the president of a taxi stand in the area.
