New Delhi: Several parts of Delhi and adjoining areas received moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms on Sunday morning.

Delhi recorded 25.1 mm rain in the past 24 hours till 8.30 am this morning. The normal rain expected in the entire month is 27.1 mm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted "thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall" over some parts of South Delhi viz Ayanagar, Dera Mandi, Tughlakabad, and some districts of Haryana.

The minimum temperature recorded till 6.30 am was 9.9 degrees Celsius.

The MeT department also forecasted the chances of hailstorm activity and moderate showers. Both the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to rise further over the next two days, with the IMD forecasting light rain for Sunday and light to moderate showers on Monday.

Cloudy sky with the chance of light rain and thunderstorms is likely to continue till January 5 due to a western disturbance in the region.

Under the influence of these systems, moderate and widespread rainfall/snowfall is likely over western Himalayan region during January 4 to 5 with its peak intensity on January 4 and 5.
