Reuters Chief photojournalist Danish Siddiqui has been killed in clashes while covering the ongoing war between the Taliban and Afghan forces in Kandahar.

The Indian photo-journalist was embedded with the Afghan forces and was caught in an ambush in the Spin Boldak district in Kandahar.

Just three days ago, the Humvee in which he was travelling with Afghan special forces was targeted by at least 3 RPG rounds and other weapons.

He had then tweeted, "I was lucky to be safe and capture the visual of one of the rockets hitting the armour plate overhead."

The Pulitzer-winning journalist had been on back to back missions with the Afghan armed forces and had been reporting on the war in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said he was deeply saddened by the reports that Reuters photojournalist Danish Siddiqui was killed while covering the Taliban atrocities in Kandahar.

During his career, Danish covered several important stories across the world. He had covered wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Rohingya refugees crisis, Nepal earthquakes, Hong Kong protests, among others.

The Indian photojournalist's work has been widely published in scores of magazines, newspapers, slideshows and galleries across the world.
