India and China will jointly maintain peace and stability in the border areas and avoid any new incidents. That, perhaps, sums up the 11th round of Corps Commanders-level talks between the two countries held at the Chushul border meeting point on Friday.

The two forces had disengaged from north and south of Pangong Tso areas in the eastern Ladakh in February this year.

The troops of two neighbouring countries have been involved in a border standoff for around a year.

"The two sides had a detailed exchange of views for the resolution of the remaining issues related to disengagement along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh," the defence ministry said about Friday's talks that lasted about 13 hours.

They also agreed on the need to resolve the outstanding issues in an expeditious manner in accordance with the existing agreements and protocols, it said.

In this context "it was also highlighted that completion of disengagement in other areas would pave the way for two sides to consider de-escalation of forces and ensure full restoration of peace and tranquillity and enable progress in bilateral relations," the ministry added.

During the meeting, the armies of both countries agreed to take guidance from the consensus of their leaders, continue their communication and dialogue and work towards a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest.
