Amid a dip in fresh cases of Covid-19 in the country on Monday, India achieved another milestone when India overtook the US in total number of vaccine doses administered so far.

According to Union health ministry data on Monday, a total of 32.36 crore vaccine doses were administered so far under nationwide vaccination drive. The US has given 33.33 crore Covid-19 doses so far.

With India's higher population however, the percentage of the country that has been inoculated remains comparatively lower.

"India achieves another milestone in COVID-19 vaccination and overtakes USA in total number of vaccine doses administered," the Health Ministry tweeted sharing details about global vaccination efforts. As per the list, India has now surpassed nations including the US, UK, Italy, Germany and France.

The list does not however include China, which presently leads the inoculation rankings. As per reports that quoted the Chinese National Health Commission last week, the country has administered more than one billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines. The country has in recent weeks amped up vaccination efforts, reportedly administering around 500 million doses in less than a month.

The Centre on Saturday told the Supreme Court that till June 25 more than 31 crore Covid vaccine doses have been administered across the country which includes over 1.73 crore doses to Health Care Workers (HCWs).

Over 2.66 crore doses have been administered to Frontline Workers (FLWs), over 9.93 crores doses to persons between 45 to 59 years of age and over 8.96 crore doses to persons above the age of 60 years, it said.

India saw a single day rise of 46,148 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases to 3,02,79,331, while daily fatalities were recorded below 1,000, taking the total death toll to 3,96,730, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

India saw 979 fatalities due to Covid-19 in a day, the lowest in 76 days.
