With India celebrating its 75th year of Independence, a flower petal shower over the ramparts of the Red Fort by two Indian Air Force Mi-14 1V choppers in Amrut formation, a separate block for Corona warriors, and the presence of 32 Olympic winners would be highlights of this year's Independence Day.

In a first, the IAF's two choppers will be showering flower petals in Amrut formation. While the first helicopter will be piloted by Wing Commander Baldev Singh Bisht, the controls of the other will be with Wing Commander Nikhil Mehrotra.

Thirty-two Olympic winners, including India's first-ever Gold Medallist in track and field, Subedar Neeraj Chopra, along with two Sports Authority of India officials, have been invited to participate in the celebrations at the Red Fort.

Also invited to the Red Fort are 240 Olympians, their support staff and Sports Authority of India and sports federation officials. They will be seated at 'Gyan Path' in front of the Red Fort's ramparts.

In Tokyo, India recorded its best-ever medal haul in the Olympics, bagging a total of seven medals -- one gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

A separate block has been created on the south side of the ramparts to honour Corona warriors, who played a vital role in the fightback against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Guard of Honour contingent will comprise an officer and 20 men each from the three Services and Delhi Police. Indian Navy will be the coordinating service this year.

After inspecting the Guard of Honour, Prime Minister Modi will hoist the National Flag following by a 'Rashtriya Salute'. The Navy band, comprising of 16 men, will play the National Anthem during the hoisting of the tricolour and the 'Rashritya Salute'.

Lt Commander P Priyambada Sahoo would assist Prime Minister Modi in hoisting the National Flag. The unfurling of the tricolour will be synchronised with a 21-gun salute by the gunners of the elite 2233 Field Battery (Ceremonial). The prime minister will then address the nation.
