Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan once again raked up the Kashmir issue while responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's letter.

In his letter, Imran Khan said, "The people of Pakistan also desire peaceful, cooperative relations with all neighbours, including India."

"We are convinced that durable peace and stability in South Asia is contingent upon resolving all outstanding issues between India and Pakistan, in particular, the Jammu & Kashmir dispute," he said in a letter addressed to PM Modi dated March 29.

"Creation of an enabling environment is imperative for a constructive and result-oriented dialogue," the Pakistani PM said.

On March 24, the Indian prime minister had extended a greeting to his Pakistani counterpart on their National Day and said, "As a neighbouring country, India desires cordial relations with the people of Pakistan. For this, an environment of trust, devoid of terror and hostility, is imperative."

PM Modi had also sent a similar message to his Pakistani counterpart last year on their National Day.

Pakistan commemorates a resolution passed on March 23, 1940, when the Indian subcontinent was under British colonial rule.

PM Modi sent the letter days after the Pakistan prime minister expressed his desire for forging good relations with New Delhi. Pakistan Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had also called for a peaceful resolution in Jammu & Kashmir region.

In February, the Director Generals of Military Operations of both countries held discussions and called for the implementation of 2013 ceasefire violations in Kashmir.
