Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University in Aligarh as he kicked off BJP’s poll campaign with only six months to go for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022.

The university set up in a total area of over 92 acres at Lodha village and Musepur Kareem Jarouli village of Aligarh's Kol tehsil is being established by the Uttar Pradesh government in memory and honour of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, the great freedom fighter, educationist and social reformer.

It will provide affiliations to 395 colleges in the district and the Yogi Adityanath government's move to set up the university after the noted Jat figure is being politically seen as part of the ruling BJP's bid to win over the community ahead of the crucial assembly polls in the state early next year.

While addressing the nation from Aligarh, PM Modi said that people can learn the indomitable spirit and the vitality to fulfil dreams at any cost from the life of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh. He said that Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh wanted India’s independence and devoted every moment of his life to the cause.

Calling Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh a great visionary, PM Modi said that he made immense contribution towards the freedom struggle of the nation. Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University will not only become a big centre of modern education but will also be known for defence-related studies, defence manufacturing technology and manpower development, said PM Modi.

“Today, not only the country but the entire world is seeing how India is manufacturing everything from modern grenades and rifles to fighter aircraft, drones and warships. India is moving towards making a new identity of an important defence exporter of the world,” PM Modi said.

He further said, “Uttar Pradesh is becoming a great example of a double engine government's double profit. Uttar Pradesh is becoming an attractive place for every small and big investor of the country and the world. This happens when the right environment is created for development. UP, which was seen as a stumbling block in the development of the country, is leading big campaigns of the country today.”

The Prime Minister also visited exhibition models of Aligarh node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma briefed Modi about the upcoming university.
