An encounter is underway as firing resumed in the Bhatta Durriyan area of Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday. To recall, Poonch has been witnessing an operation that has been on for 14 days to flush out terrorists hiding in the dense forest cover. The encounter started on October 10 and has continued till then.

So far, India has lost the lives of nine of its bravehearts. While five soldiers were killed in the Chamrer forest on October 11, four soldiers were killed on October 14. The encounter site is reportedly 12 kilometres inside the Line of Control, army sources said, adding that drones had been deployed over the thick pine forests to track down the terrorists.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police says that two of its men have also been injured during the operations. On Sunday morning, the encounter resumed and heavy exchange of fire is being reported from the spot.

The police earlier said that they had taken an arrested Pakistani terrorist identified as Zia Mustafa to the encounter site to identify the route taken by terrorists who have been engaging with the security forces for the last two weeks. However, just as the J&K police and army personnel were approaching the terror hideout, the terrorists opened fire in which two police personnel have been injured. They were evacuated to the nearby hospital.

The terrorist who was accompanying the police personnel was also injured in the burst of gunfire. However, he could not be evacuated. Police said that a fresh attempt will be made to evacuate him after reinforcements are rushed in. For now, the encounter is now underway in the Bhatta Durriyan village of the Mendhar sector.
