Gurugram: In view of the recent surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, the Haryana government on Monday imposed a night curfew. The order, issued on Monday evening, could not be implemented immediately as many commuters were unaware of it. Police, too, said they were being lenient and would enforce the curbs fully from Tuesday.

All non-essential movement during the curfew hours has been banned by the government and the curfew would remain in place until further orders.

Essential services like hospitals, chemist shops and ATMs will be allowed to operate round-the-clock, while every other commercial establishment, including grocery stores, will have to down shutters by 9pm.

“Offices in the city, which operate night shifts, will have to change their timings accordingly. These companies will have to fix working hours in a way that their employees start before 9pm and leave after 5am until a further clarification comes from the state government on their movement,” Gurugram deputy commissioner Yash Garg said.

The order exempts frontline workers like police, emergency service personnel, military or central police force personnel, etc from the night curfew.

Those employed with the media, health, electricity or fire department are also allowed to go out during the night to discharge their duties.

“Those tasked with law and order /emergencies and municipal services/duties including executive magistrates, police personnel, Military/C.A.P.F. personnel in uniform, health, electricity, fire, media persons with accreditation and Government machinery tasked with Covid-19 related duties (All on production of identity card),” are some among the exemptions, the government order read.

The announcement comes a day after the state reported 3440 Covid-19 cases on Sunday and 16 related fatalities taking its disease tally to 316,881 and death toll to 3268, according to a bulletin.
