Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday extended the Covid-19 lockdown in the state for another week, while relaxing curbs on shop timings and malls in the state.

The lockdown, which was earlier imposed till May 31, has been extended till June 7.

The shops in the market places are now allowed to open from 9 am to 3 pm.

Amid a sharp decline in number of active cases and the positivity rate in the State over the past one month, the Haryana government extended the lockdown, or “Mahamari Alert-Surakshit Haryana”, for another week till 5 a.m. on June 7.

“We have decided to extend COVID lockdown till June 7. Shops can now operate from 9 am to 3 pm”, asserted Khattar, asking shopkeepers to follow odd-even formula. Moreover, educational institutions in the state will remain closed till June 15,” said Khattar.

He said shops which were earlier allowed to open as per odd-even basis from 7 am to 12 pm will now be open from 9 am to 3 pm.

“We had received representations from market associations after which we decided to change the timings. However, the shops will continue to open as per teh odd-even system,” Khattar said.

Malls will now be allowed to open from 10 am to 6 pm, subject to certain conditions, he said.

Number of visitors allowed inside a mall will depend on the size of the structure, the chief minister added.

The order also stated that the night curfew will remain in place from 10 pm to 5 am.

The Haryana government had first imposed a weekend lockdown in nine districts — Gurugram, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonipat, Karnal, Panchkula, Hisar, Sirsa and Fatehabad — from 10 p.m. April 30 to 5 am on May 3. The entire State was then brought under lockdown for a week on May 3 and the restrictions are being extended on a weekly basis.

Haryana recorded 1,868 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, taking the total case tally in the state to 7,53,937. A total of 3,752 people recovered from the virus on Saturday.

Haryana also registered 97 fatalities, and with this the death toll in the state mounted to 8,132. Active caseload in the state now stands at 23,094.
