Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani resigns, thanks PM Narendra Modi
Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani on Saturday submitted his resignation.
the BJP's second-longest serving chief minister in Gujarat, resigned ahead of the election in the state next year. It is not yet clear why Rupani stepped down from the post.
Speaking to the media after the resignation, Rupani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for trusting him with the responsibility. He further said that he would be happy at the role the party assigns to him hereon, besides asserting that he is still committed to the leadership of Modi, reports Moneycontrol.
He further said that he had the constant support of Modi, while the state has made enormous progress under his leadership and scaled new heights. He feels that Gujarat's progress should continue under the new leadership of Modi, as it was the reason why he chose to resign.

He continued to add that it has been BJP's tradition to switch responsibilities of its members with the passing time. He also thanked the people of Gujarat for constantly supporting him.
Sources claimed that Rupani's exit came after an internal assessment made by the BJP found that the party would not be able to win the assembly elections due in the state in December 2022.
However, his resignation has drawn questions from the opposition party, Congress. Congress's working president Hardik Patel claimed that BJP lacked confidence in its CM. He also alleged that if BJP was satisfied with the government doing well in the last four years, what really made it change its leadership overnight?
