Goa’s 90% population administered first dose of COVID-19 vaccine: CM Pramod Sawant
CM Sawant also announced that people of Goa will get 16,000 litres of tap water free per month from September 1.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that the state leads other states in vaccinating its population against Covid 19.
“I am proud to announce that Goa has become the first state to cover 90% of its population with the first dose," Sawant said during a state-level Independence Day function in the capital, Panaji.
CM Sawant also announced that people of Goa will get 16,000 litres of tap water free per month from September 1. The announcement comes at a time when Goa is slated for legislative Assembly polls in February-March 2022.
“I am sure this will benefit the mool Goenkar (orginal Goan),” he said.
He also assured that his government will not compromise on the issue of the inter-state Mahadayi river water dispute with Karnataka. “We will not stop till we win the battle on the Mahadayi issue," he said. Goa and Karnataka are locked in a dispute over sharing of the river's water, considered as the lifeline of Goa.
Talking about the upcoming Mopa International Airport, Sawant said it will be commissioned on August 15 next year. He added 35% of the work at the under-construction Mopa International Airport that had been completed. “On August 15, 2022, we will open the airport for the people at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, Sawant said.
In his address, Sawant also applauded the Indian athletes for winning medals and bringing glory to the country at the recently held Olympic Games in Tokyo.
