Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on Thursday filed a petition in Bombay High Court challenging his transfer from the top post.

The former commissioner has also sought a CBI inquiry against Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh into alleged corrupt malpractices.

Singh had first approached the Supreme Court demanding a CBI probe against Deshmukh.

"Liberty to approach the High Court granted," the top court said in its order today. The SC said that there is no doubt that the matter is "quite serious" but Singh should approach the Bombay HC first.

Singh was last week transferred from the post of Mumbai police commissioner in the midst of a probe by the NIA into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV which was found parked outside the south Mumbai residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani last month.

Singh was recently shunted out as Mumbai police commissioner in the midst of a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the recovery of an explosives- laden SUV from outside the south Mumbai residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani last month.
