Babul Supriyo, former union minister and BJP leader, joins Trinamool Congress

FollowBabul Supriyo, a former union minister and current Member of Parliament (MP), joined the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal on Saturday after recently leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In the presence of TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and party's Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien, he was admitted into the party. Confirming the development, the TMC took to its official Twitter handle and shared several pictures of Supriyo with TMC leaders.
“I will play by the rule book and by the ethical book,” Supriyo declared in a news conference after joining the party. He informed that on Monday, he'll meet with Mamata Banerjee.
Everything transpired in the previous three days, according to Supriyo. “I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm leaving politics from the bottom of my heart. There is no vengeance politics. I'm really looking forward to starting work at the TMC. It wasn't a big deal to leave politics," he added. Supriyo explained that it all started with a conversation with O'Brien, which led to talks with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Bannerjee. "I thought this was my opportunity answer."
The news comes only days after he declared his retirement from politics. Babul Supriyo was a vocal opponent of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Supremo, and when he announced his departure from politics, he stated that he would not join any other political party.
Babul Supriyo was dismissed from the Cabinet in the most recent reshuffle, and he declared his self-exile from politics a few days later. He did not, however, formally resign from the BJP as an MP.
