Former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Minister M Manikandan has been arrested by Tamil Nadu police in an alleged sexual assault case.

The police team arrested Manikandan in Bengaluru in the wee hours of Sunday.

The former AIADMK minister had been "absconding" since he was booked over a complaint filed by a Malaysian actor accusing him of cheating her in a relationship.

The Madras High Court had earlier this week dismissed the anticipatory bail petition moved by Manikandan.

Manikandan was reportedly in a relationship with her for five years. In her complaint, the Malaysian actor claimed that the consent given for sex on the promise of marrying the actor by the minister could not be considered as consent if the promise is not honoured.

She also alleged that Manikandan had forced her to abort their child when she became pregnant. She further claimed that she had conceived thrice during their relationship. Still, the politician forced her to get an abortion done every time, promising that they would have a baby after getting married.

However, the former minister termed the allegations levelled against him as concocted and part of an extortion conspiracy.
