New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday took a dig at the Modi-led government over the record Covid-19 inoculations in a single day, after India's mass vaccination drive.

Rahul Gandhi, taking it to Twitter shared a graph of the vaccination trend in the last 10 days and captioned it “event over”.

Using the hashtag vaccination, Gandhi said in a tweet, "Event over".

The “vaccination trends” graph was an image taken from the Co-WIN website to show the decline in vaccinations after the record.

While on September 17, 2.5 crore Covid-19 vaccine shots were administered across the country, only 83 lakh doses were given the next day on September 18.

Gandhi on Saturday had tweeted that he hoped for more such record vaccinations in the country. "Looking forward to many more days of 2.1 crore vaccinations. This pace is what our country needs," he had said on Twitter.

In addition to Gandhi, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram in a series of tweets, had also said he was “happy and grateful that 2.5 crore vaccinations were administered on Friday,” Further, he asked, "But why did we have to wait until the PM's birthday.”

The former Union finance minister in another tweet questioned, “Suppose the prime minister's birthday was on December 31, would the 2.5 crore vaccinations have been done only on the last day of the year.”

"Vaccination is not like cutting a cake on a birthday. Vaccination is a programme, it is a process. It has to be accelerated every day, not scale a peak on a birthday," he added.

Meanwhile, PM Modi lauding the healthcare workers for achieving a huge milestone of administering 2.5 crore doses on his birthday (September 17) had stated that the landmark figure of Covid-19 vaccination doses administered on September 17 reflects the potential of India on combating this pandemic together – nationally and globally.
