The Enforcement Directorate on Friday froze some of the assets of Bollywood actors Dino Morea and Sanjay Khan, DJ Aqeel and late Congress leader Ahmed Patel's son-in-law in connection with the Sandesara Group money laundering case.

The agency provisionally attached eight immovable properties, three vehicles and several bank accounts, shares and mutual funds worth a total of Rs 8.79 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The PMLA case pertains to the alleged Rs 14,500-crore bank-loan fraud allegedly perpetrated by Sterling Biotech and its main promoters and directors.

The promoter brothers Nitin Sandesara, Chetan Sandesara, Chetan's wife Dipti Sandesara and Hitesh Patel have been declared fugitive economic offenders by a special court.

According to recent reports, the family has been traced to Albania. The Sandesaras have business interests in that country and have been trying to evade deportation, claiming that they would be religiously persecuted in India.

Agency officials said that their investigations had revealed that the Sandesaras had diverted proceeds of crime worth Rs 3 crore to actor Sanjay Khan, Rs 1.4 crore to Dino Morea, Rs 12.5 crore to DJ Aqeel and Rs 3.51 crore to Irfan Ahmed Siddiqui.

The agency had earlier attached movable and immovable properties worth Rs 14,513 crore. Friday's action had now taken the value of frozen assets to over Rs 14,521 crore.
