Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with beneficiaries of the Digital India Programme on the sixth anniversary of the government's flagship initiative on Thursday.

"If there is a zeal for innovation, there is passion for its quick adaptation in the country. This is why Digital India is India's resolution, the practice of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Digital India is the 21st century's slogan of India's strength," said PM Modi.

PM Modi said that data and demographic dividend combined with India's proven tech prowess presents massive opportunity for the country, and exuded confidence that this decade will be 'India's techade'.

PM Modi interacting with beneficiaries of Digital India said, "Whether it's issuance of driving license, or birth certificate or payment of electricity bill, water bill, or income tax return, these can now be processed via Digital India platform faster & easily now...Even in villages, these things are being done through CSC centres."

"This decade is going to enhance India's capabilities in digital technology and its share in the global digital economy. That's why top experts are looking at this decade as 'India's Techade'," he added.

PM Modi also spoke - via video conference - to beneficiaries of various schemes of Digital India programme, including Diksha, eNAM, eSanjeevani solution for telemedicine, DigiBunai and PM SVANidhi scheme.

“As a nation, in the span of 6 years we have transformed lives with ‘Digital India’. Our top priority is Innovation. The vision of minimum government and maximum governance will be fulfilled with one and only Digital India,” he further said.

“We are working on several initiatives in technology and innovation especially for people in the northeast,” the PM added.

The Prime Minister spoke of the critical role that technology had played during the pandemic to ensure continuity of education, access to healthcare, and other citizen services.

Digital solutions created by India during Covid-19 pandemic are being acknowledged globally, he said adding that contact tracing app, Aarogya Setu, has played a key role in containing the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
