Delhi Police has averted a major assassination attempt on Kashmiri activist Sushil Pandit in the national capital with the arrest of two gunmen.

The gunmen, who were arrested by Delhi Police near RK Puram in South-West Delhi, have reportedly confessed to a conspiracy to target the Kashmiri activist.

Two country-made pistols, two foreign-made pistols and four cartridges were recovered from their possession and along with a phone in which Sushil's photo was spotted.

According to the Delhi Police, the gunmen were promised Rs 10 lakh for killing Pandit.

The investigation, which has now been handed over to the Delhi Police Special Cell, has so far revealed that the duo was planning the assassination plot on the social media app Signal.

Sources said that the conspiracy was hatched after Sushil gave 'pro-establishment' speeches at the Jawarhal Nehru University.

In his speeches, the activist had also highlighted the plight of 3.5 lakh Kashmiri pandits who faced mass exodus in the 1990s.
