The Delhi Police has arrested businessman Navneet Kalra, accused of hoarding and black marketing of oxygen concentrators. He was sent to three-day police custody on Monday evening.

Navneet Kalra was taken to the Maidan Garhi Police Station after Delhi Police arrested him from his brother-in-law's farmhouse in Gurugram.

Earlier this month, Delhi Police had raided and recovered 524 oxygen concentrators from three restaurants owned by Kalra, including the popular Khan Chacha in South Delhi's Khan Market.

Kalra was booked under Section 420 (cheating), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The FIR also registered under the Essential Commodities Act and Epidemic Diseases Act, for black marketing of oxygen cylinders prescribes maximum punishment for seven years.

On Friday, the Delhi High Court had refused to give him interim protection from arrest, agreeing with the trial court's reasons for denying him anticipatory bail.

The police accused Kalra and other co-accused of hatching a conspiracy to wrongfully make money by selling oxygen concentrators to people at an exorbitant rate amid the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

The police claimed that Kalra allegedly convinced his customers that he was selling them premium-grade concentrators made in Germany when, in fact, he was importing cheaper devices from China.

The cops citing laboratory test results informed the court that the concentrators were of poor quality and were also malfunctioning.
