Delhi will go under curfew on weekends to break the chain of Coronavirus cases in the city.

Making the announcement, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the move was necessitated in view of the new wave of fast-spreading Coronavirus cases and the present situation in the city.

The guidelines for the weekend curfew include:

* Only essential services will be allowed to operate

* Curfew passes will be issued for marriages and other permitted activities

* Gymnasiums, pools and shopping malls to be closed

* Cinema halls allowed to operate at 30 per cent capacity

* One weekly market allowed per day per municipal zone

* Only take-aways; no dine-in restaurants will be permitted

Kejriwal denied there was any shortage of hospital beds in the city. Citing the latest data, the Delhi chief minister said that more than 5000 beds were available.

Delhi had on Thursday reported its highest single-day tally of 17,282 new Covid cases and 104 deaths. Delhi's Covid positivity rate also went up to 15.92 per cent, compared to 13.14 per cent just two days ago.

Delhi residents favour a three-week lockdown?

A new survey has revealed that 59 per cent of Delhi residents are in favour of a three-week lockdown in the wake of the prevailing situation.

A LocalCircles survey, conducted in all 11 districts of Delhi with over 8,000 responses from residents, found that 59 per cent of residents supported the idea of a three-week lockdown while 36 per cent were against it and 5 per cent didn't have an opinion.

Interestingly, a similar exercise at the end of March had only 16 per cent of Delhi residents favouring a lockdown.
